History of McGregor, TX

First known as McGregor Springs, the small town found its first roots in 1882 at the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe and the Texas and St. Louis railway. In 1886 the city adopted a charter, and over the next decade it gained 2 hotels, a national bank, a cottonseed oil mill and a washing-machine factory. By 1890 McGregor had a population of over 700, and only grew from there!

The economy near McGregor received a large boost in 1942 when the United States Army made known their plans to build the Bluebonnet Ordnance Plant. The plant was located on 18,000 acres just southwest of town. Because of this new industry, the population of McGregor tripled in 3 months to more than 5,000. The wide variety of job opportunities and activities continue to attract new residents to McGregor and the city continues to grow today.
