Just 17.5 miles from the ever-growing city of Waco, McGregor is a rural community with a variety of retail, commercial and industrial opportunities. Commuting to Waco and surrounding communities is a breeze for McGregor residents due to McGregor’s location just off U.S. Route 84. McGregor is home to over 5,200 residents, and the students that call McGregor home are served by McGregor Independent School District. 1 Primary School, 1 Elementary School, 1 Junior High School, and 1 High School are part of the close-knit school district.

McGregor is home to 5 beautiful city parks, 9 golf courses, and 2 area lakes. Lake Waco and Lake Belton are perfect entertainment spots for lure fishing, swimming and boating enthusiasts. Camping sights are available for rental at both parks, or locals can enjoy a day of picnicking and recreation at any of the parks or local lakes. If you are looking for a place for large gatherings, Mother Neff State Park is just 6 miles from McGregor and offers hiking, biking, birding and more.

History of McGregor, TX


First known as McGregor Springs, the small town found its first roots in 1882 at the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe and the Texas and St. Louis railway. In 1886 the city adopted a charter, and over the next decade it gained 2 hotels, a national bank, a cottonseed oil mill and a washing-machine factory. By 1890 McGregor had a population of over 700, and only grew from there!


The economy near McGregor received a large boost in 1942 when the United States Army made known their plans to build the Bluebonnet Ordnance Plant. The plant was located on 18,000 acres just southwest of town. Because of this new industry, the population of McGregor tripled in 3 months to more than 5,000. The wide variety of job opportunities and activities continue to attract new residents to McGregor and the city continues to grow today.
